2 PH.D. POSITIONS
PREFERENCE-BASED REINFORCEMENT LEARNING

Darmstadt and Marburg, Germany

We are looking for two research assistants (Ph.D. students or Post-Docs)
to work on the project "Reinforcement Learning with Qualitative
Feedback" funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG
Schwerpunktprogramm "Autonomous Learning"). This project is a joint
initiative of the working groups of Prof. Johannes Fürnkranz (Technical
University Darmstadt) and Prof. Eyke Hüllermeier (Philipps University
Marburg).

The main goal of the project is to develop a generalized setting of
reinforcement learning, in which the common quantitative reward signal
is replaced by qualitative feedback in the form of pairwise comparisons
or rankings of actions, states, or trajectories. Building on novel
methods for preference learning, the idea is to equip the learning agent
with qualitative policy models, such as ranking functions sorting its
available actions from most to least promising, as well as algorithms
for learning such models from qualitative feedback of the above kind.

In addition to theoretical research, we are planning to conduct two case
studies, one in the field of game playing (learning from annotated game
protocols, e.g., annotated chess games) and another one in the field of
medical therapy optimization (design of cancer clinical trials).

The positions are for up to 3 years and can be filled immediately.

我就是这个专业的， 巴黎六大计算机学院的人工智能系，机器学习方面的理论课程都涉及过很多，但是我只读完了研一， 研二选了professional的方向读了一半放弃了因为课程没什么意思。  没硕士文凭，行么。。

搞这专业就是理想与现实之间的纠结徘徊。。

学过的十几门课程， 好像什么变态的乱七八糟的理论都有涉及，还有一些不知道哪里来的稀奇古怪的AI语言。。
